GREAT NEWS! Mixed polyolefin packaging can now be recycled in store

An update on the OPRL (On-Pack Recycling Label) website states that any mixed polyolefin packaging can now be recycled with bags at large supermarkets. Previously only mono PE or mono PP packaging were acceptable.

This means that OPP/PE laminates are now classed as recyclable and can use the relevant OPRL label.

This is great news and will make the transition from non-recyclable to recyclable much easier on challenging applications.

Dependent on their use, OPP/PE laminates can be an excellent replacement for

  1. PET/PE laminates which currently aren’t recyclable

  2. OPP/CPP and PE/PE for improved machineability combining stiffness and high heat tolerance of the OPP with the excellent sealing properties of the polyethylene

This is a major step forward and offers a more cost-effective, fit for purpose solution making it much easier to change to a recyclable option.

If you would like help in changing to an OPP/PE laminate, or to find out more information, please get in touch.
