Jessica: - The Sunshine in our Lives

Kate describes our granddaughter, Jessica, as ‘one of the most formidable little people you could meet.’

Her character is very much in her mother’s mould, with three children, Jessie, 6, Louis, 8, and Alex, 12, she is a thoroughly modern mum. All the children attend different schools, so mornings are chaotic. The children’s extracurricular activities include football training, tennis, cricket, hockey coaching, (indoors), swimming, cross-country running, along with piano and guitar, and gymnastics.

In addition, Kate works two days per week as a Marketing Director in the Soho office of Great London Properties (GLP), a business founded by husband Rob Hill, 25 years ago, focusing on London’s West End Property Sales and Lettings market.  

Kate is not a natural athlete, but she is a very fit and extremely determined female. By rising at 6am every day, Kate fits in her morning run or session with the local BMF Group (British Military Fitness). Her weekends include a 10-15 mile run and more training for her second marathon (1^st London marathon was 10 years ago!).

A born organizer of parties for children, adults, and special occasions, these are all tasks which she undertakes with energy, enthusiasm and good humour. Kate and Rob (along with Grandma) have all learnt sign language, so when Jessica is not wearing her ‘cochlear ears’, conversations continue.

The National Children’s Deaf Society have given fantastic support to Kate and Rob, particularly by facilitating the sharing with other parents the experience of bringing up Jessica, who was basically diagnosed as being deaf from birth.

Finally, Alex and Louis include Jessica in their daily rough and tumble, ensuring that she has become the formidable ‘little person’ her mother describes.
